The Meek and the Eschatologial Hope
Testimony:
It's been quite
awhile since I was refreshed by the Word of God. However as I was taking the
MRT this morning, a verse came into my mind "Blessed are the meek, for
they shall inherit the earth." I felt inspired and let it sink in. This
verse is part of the beatitudes highlighted by Jesus in His iconic sermon on
the Mount.
When Jesus preached the beatitudes, it was not just about
"be this" or "be that". In this present age, those who
mourn had not yet received comfort and the meek remain oppressed in many parts
of the world. Yet each beatitude highlighted has a "Blessed are the ....
for they shall ...."
The phrase "they shall" carries a promise. It is
the proclamation of the eschatological hope we have in Christ. The meek shall
inherit the earth. The mourning shall be comforted. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
shall be filled. When we exercise faith in these promises, we stand in the nexus
between "here and now" and eternity.
The Good News is therefore not merely about repentance and
forgiveness of sins in Christ (although these are the starting point of our
journey). It also encompasses an eschatological hope that wraps and folds creation to a glorious conclusion in
the age to come. This is the hope that we need to learn to feed on and be
nourished- nothing more, nothing less.
Thank God for His beautiful reminder in the Word.
